About the Trip Fuel Cost Calculator
Before any long drive in Pakistan — Lahore to Kasur, a family trip to the north, a weekly commute — the first question is the same: how much will the fuel cost? Petrol prices are revised every fortnight, so last month's number is already wrong. This trip fuel cost calculator uses today's figures — distance, your vehicle's real mileage and the price at the pump — and returns the litres you will burn and the rupees you will spend.
The calculator handles the details that trip maths usually misses. A round trip doubles the distance with one toggle. Sharing with friends divides the total instantly — enter four people and everyone sees their share. And because it also shows the cost per kilometre, you can compare routes, compare the car against the bike, or price the seats if you carpool to work every day.
Mileage and price are both editable for a reason: a Cultus on the motorway, a Corolla in city traffic and a CD-70 bike all burn fuel at different rates, and petrol, diesel and Hi-octane cost different amounts. Enter what your vehicle actually achieves and what fuel actually costs today — the tool does the rest in your browser, with nothing uploaded.
How to Use the Trip Fuel Cost Calculator
Follow these simple steps — the whole process takes under a minute:
- Enter the one-way distance — the kilometres from start to destination; use the map app reading, not a guess.
- Set the trip type — round trip (default) doubles the distance automatically; switch to one way for drop-offs.
- Enter your mileage — km per litre for your vehicle and route; cars commonly manage 10–15, bikes 35–45 on Pakistani roads.
- Enter today's fuel price — the per-litre PKR price for petrol, diesel or Hi-octane from the latest fortnightly revision, then set how many people are sharing.
- Press Calculate — read the litres needed, the total fuel cost, the cost per person and the per-kilometre rate.
The Formula & Method Behind the Trip Fuel Cost Calculator
The calculation is two divisions and a multiplication. Total distance = one-way distance × 2 for a round trip (× 1 for one way). Fuel needed = distance ÷ mileage — a 110 km round trip at 12 km per litre needs 110 ÷ 12 ≈ 9.17 litres. Total cost = litres × price per litre, so 9.17 litres at Rs. 265 comes to about Rs. 2,429.
The two planning figures follow directly: cost per person = total cost ÷ number of people sharing, and cost per km = total cost ÷ total distance. Per-km cost is the honest way to compare vehicles and routes, because it strips out trip length — at the example figures, Rs. 2,429 ÷ 110 km ≈ Rs. 22.08 per km, whatever the destination.
Real consumption drifts from the brochure figure. Air conditioning, city traffic, rough roads and aggressive acceleration can cut mileage by 10–20%, while steady motorway driving improves it. Add a small buffer — budget the trip at slightly worse mileage than you expect and treat any leftover as the chai stop. Toll charges, parking and stops are separate costs; this tool prices the fuel only.
Fuel Budgeting on Pakistani Roads
Check the price on the day you travel. Petrol, diesel and Hi-octane prices in Pakistan are revised fortnightly by OGRA and the government, and can move sharply between revisions. A 10-rupee move changes a 40-litre fill-up by Rs. 400. Look up the current price, enter it above, and re-check before every major trip rather than reusing an old estimate.
Know your real mileage, not the brochure one. The figure on the windshield is measured in ideal conditions. Fill the tank, reset the trip meter, drive normally for a week, refill and divide kilometres by litres pumped — that number, entered above, makes every estimate accurate. City traffic with AC typically lands 10–20% below the claimed figure; steady motorway cruising can beat it.
Budget beyond the fuel. Fuel is usually the largest line of a road trip but not the only one: motorway tolls, parking, oil-top-ups on long routes and unexpected repairs all add up. A common habit is to add 15–20% to the fuel cost as the all-in travel budget, then hold a separate emergency amount for the return leg.
Carpooling divides the biggest cost. Four colleagues sharing a commute cut the per-person fuel bill to a quarter and halve the wear on each vehicle when they rotate cars. Use the people field above for the split — and when monthly travel costs start competing with loan instalments, the EMI calculator shows what a car truly costs the budget.

How do I calculate the petrol cost of a trip?
Divide the total distance by your vehicle's mileage in km per litre to get litres, then multiply by the current price per litre. For a round trip, double the one-way distance first. The calculator above does all of this at once, and also shows the per-km and per-person figures.
What mileage should I enter for my car or bike?
Use your own measured average, not the brochure figure. Typical Pakistani numbers: small hatchbacks 13–16 km/l, sedans 10–13 km/l in the city and more on the motorway, CD-70 class bikes 40–50 km/l. Measure once with the full-tank-to-full-tank method and every estimate becomes accurate.
Does the round trip toggle change anything else?
It doubles the distance, and everything downstream follows: litres needed, total cost and cost per person all double, while the cost per km stays the same because cost and distance double together. Leave it on one way for drop-offs where you are not coming straight back.
How do we split fuel cost between friends?
Enter the number of people in the sharing field and the calculator divides the total equally — Rs. 2,429 across 4 people is about Rs. 607 each. Note this splits fuel only; for tolls and parking, either include them in a combined budget or settle them separately.
Does this work for diesel, bikes and CNG?
Yes — the calculator only needs a distance, a consumption figure and a price. Enter diesel's per-litre price and your car's diesel mileage, a bike's 40+ km/l with the petrol price, or a CNG average in km/kg with the per-kg price. The maths is identical.
Why was my actual fuel cost higher than the estimate?
Usually one of four reasons: the mileage was optimistic for the route (traffic, AC and hills cut it), the fuel price changed after the fortnightly revision, the route was longer than the map estimate, or idling in queues burned fuel without covering distance. Budget with slightly worse mileage than measured.
