About the Salary Tax Calculator

Every salaried person in Pakistan sees a tax line on their payslip, but few can check whether the deduction is right. Employers deduct income tax at source under FBR rules, and the amount changes with every Finance Act. This Pakistan salary tax calculator uses the latest salaried tax slabs and shows your annual tax, monthly deduction, take-home pay and effective rate in seconds — all in PKR, with nothing uploaded anywhere.

The calculator supports both tax years people ask about: Tax Year 2026-27 (1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027), whose slabs came through the Finance Act 2026 budget restructuring, and the previous Tax Year 2025-26 for checking old payslips or arrears. Enter your salary monthly or annually — most people know their package as a monthly figure, but tax law works on annual income, so the tool converts automatically.

Pakistan's system is progressive: income up to Rs. 600,000 a year is tax-free, and only the portion falling inside each higher band is taxed at that band's rate. Because of that, the marginal rate you see quoted (for example 20%) is not what you pay on your whole salary — the effective rate on a Rs. 250,000 monthly salary works out far lower. The calculator shows both numbers so you can see the real picture.

How to Use the Salary Tax Calculator

Follow these simple steps — the whole process takes under a minute:

  1. Choose the tax year — 2026-27 for the current year's slabs (default) or 2025-26 for last year's calculations and arrears.
  2. Select monthly or annual — depending on whether you know your salary per month or per year.
  3. Enter your taxable salary in PKR — the gross salary that is taxable, i.e. after any exempt allowances. If unsure, use your basic pay plus taxable allowances.
  4. Press Calculate Tax — you get annual tax, the monthly deduction your employer should make, take-home pay and your effective tax rate.
  5. Compare years — switch the tax year to see exactly how much the new budget saves (or costs) you versus the previous one.

The Formula & Method Behind the Salary Tax Calculator

Pakistan taxes salaried individuals under a slab system. Each slab defines a band of annual taxable income, a fixed amount already accumulated from the lower bands, and a percentage rate applied to the part of your income inside that band. Your total annual tax is the fixed amount plus the rate multiplied by (salary minus the band's lower edge), once your salary reaches that band.

The current Tax Year 2026-27 salaried slabs: income up to Rs. 600,000 pays nothing; 600,001–1,200,000 pays 1% of the amount above 600,000; 1,200,001–2,200,000 pays Rs. 6,000 plus 11% of the excess; 2,200,001–3,200,000 pays Rs. 116,000 plus 20%; 3,200,001–4,100,000 pays Rs. 316,000 plus 25%; 4,100,001–5,600,000 pays Rs. 541,000 plus 29%; 5,600,001–7,000,000 pays Rs. 976,000 plus 32%; and above Rs. 7,000,000 pays Rs. 1,424,000 plus 35%.

Two definitions matter. First, these reduced slabs apply where salary makes up more than 75% of total taxable income — if business or rental income dominates, the harsher non-salaried slabs apply instead. Second, the 'effective rate' is total tax divided by total income, which is always below your slab's marginal rate because the lower bands are taxed less or not at all.

Worked exampleSana earns Rs. 250,000 a month — Rs. 3,000,000 a year. Tax Year 2026-27: her income falls in the Rs. 2.2M–3.2M band, so tax = 116,000 + 20% × (3,000,000 − 2,200,000) = Rs. 276,000 a year — Rs. 23,000 a month, an effective rate of 9.2%. Under the previous 2025-26 slabs the same band was taxed at 23%: Rs. 300,000. The restructuring saves her Rs. 24,000 a year — the calculator shows this the moment she switches tax years.

Rules and Reliefs Worth Knowing Beyond the Slabs

The 75% salary rule. These reduced salaried slabs only apply when salary makes up more than 75% of your taxable income. Consultants and freelancers whose income is mostly non-salaried fall under the general slabs, which are noticeably harsher — so enter salary income only when using this calculator, and check the general slabs separately for other income.

Filer vs non-filer is about withholding, not slabs. Your income tax slabs do not change with filer status, but non-filers face higher advance tax on banking transactions, vehicles and property, plus restrictions on certain services. Filing a return costs little and usually saves far more than it costs — and a filed return is mandatory for many visa and loan applications.

What reduces taxable salary. Contributions to a recognised provident fund, exempt allowances notified under the ordinance, and certain medical reimbursements can reduce your taxable income. Your employer applies these in the payroll system — this calculator expects the taxable figure after such exemptions, so take it from your salary slip rather than your gross package.

Arrears and bonuses. A bonus or arrears payment pushes your annual income into a higher band, so the tax deducted that month looks disproportionately large — the employer is spreading the annual liability across payments, not applying a flat monthly rate. Recalculate with the full annual figure to see the true yearly picture before assuming a mistake.

What are the income tax slabs for salaried persons in Pakistan for 2026-27?

For Tax Year 2026-27: 0% up to Rs. 600,000; 1% on Rs. 600,001–1,200,000; Rs. 6,000 + 11% on Rs. 1,200,001–2,200,000; Rs. 116,000 + 20% on Rs. 2,200,001–3,200,000; Rs. 316,000 + 25% on Rs. 3,200,001–4,100,000; Rs. 541,000 + 29% on Rs. 4,100,001–5,600,000; Rs. 976,000 + 32% on Rs. 5,600,001–7,000,000; and Rs. 1,424,000 + 35% above that.

How much salary is tax-free in Pakistan?

Annual taxable salary up to Rs. 600,000 — about Rs. 50,000 a month — pays no income tax for salaried individuals. Between Rs. 600,000 and Rs. 1,200,000, only the amount above 600,000 is taxed, at just 1% under the current slabs.

How is monthly tax deducted from salary calculated?

Employers divide your estimated annual liability by twelve. The calculator shows this figure directly: for a Rs. 150,000 monthly salary (Rs. 1.8M a year), annual tax is Rs. 72,000, so the monthly deduction is Rs. 6,000.

Is my tax different if I am a non-filer?

The slab rates themselves do not change with filer status, but non-filers pay higher advance tax on bank withdrawals, vehicle transfers, property and contracts, and face restrictions on some services. Filing your return keeps your withholding low and is usually worthwhile even with modest income.

Does this calculator include Zakat or other deductions?

No — it calculates income tax only. Zakat, provident fund, insurance and loan deductions are separate and depend on your employer's policy. Calculate your true take-home by subtracting those from the post-tax salary shown here.

Which tax year should I choose?

Use 2026-27 for salaries paid from July 2026 onward — it applies the Finance Act 2026 slabs. Choose 2025-26 to check deductions on payslips from July 2025 to June 2026, or to work out tax on arrears paid now for an earlier period.
