Hijri Age Calculator
About the Hijri Age Calculator
The Islamic (Hijri) calendar runs about 354–355 days — eleven days shorter than the Gregorian year — so your Hijri age is always a little higher than your age in the English calendar, and your Islamic birthday drifts earlier each solar year. This Hijri age calculator converts your date of birth into the Hijri calendar using the Umm al-Qura conversion, then shows your exact age in Hijri years, months and days, your birth date in the Islamic calendar, and when your next Hijri birthday falls.
Hijri dates matter for more than curiosity: Ramadan fasting, Zakat anniversaries (the hawl runs on lunar months), aqiqah, and family records in nikah registers all follow the lunar calendar. If your family noted your birth in a nikah-nama or an old household register in Hijri dates, converting it once gives you both birthdays — Gregorian for official documents, Hijri for religious milestones.
The calculator uses the tabular Umm al-Qura calendar, the most widely used modern conversion, embedded directly in your browser's own calendar engine — no server, no data entered anywhere. Actual moon sighting in Pakistan can shift a date by a day, so treat the output as the standard civil Hijri date and follow your local ruyat-e-hilal announcement when a religious decision depends on it.
How to Use the Hijri Age Calculator
Follow these simple steps — the whole process takes under a minute:
- Enter your date of birth — your Gregorian (English calendar) birth date from your CNIC, matric certificate or family record.
- Press Calculate Hijri Age — the conversion happens instantly inside your browser.
- Read your Hijri age — shown in Islamic years, months and days, plus your birth date written in the Hijri calendar with the Islamic month name.
- Note today's Hijri date — the panel also shows today's date in the Islamic calendar, handy for planning Ramadan, Shawwal or Dhul-Hijjah events.
- Check the next Islamic birthday — the exact Gregorian date when you complete your next Hijri year, which arrives about eleven days earlier each solar year.
The Formula & Method Behind the Hijri Age Calculator
The Hijri calendar counts 12 lunar months — Muharram, Safar, Rabi al-Awwal, Rabi al-Thani, Jumada al-Ula, Jumada al-Akhirah, Rajab, Shaban, Ramadan, Shawwal, Dhul-Qadah and Dhul-Hijjah — alternating 29 and 30 days, for a year of 354 or 355 days. Because the lunar year is roughly 3% shorter than the solar year, a person aged 30 Gregorian years is about 30 years and 11 months old in Hijri terms.
The conversion uses the Umm al-Qura tabular calendar: a fixed arithmetic mapping between Gregorian and Hijri dates agreed on a 29/30-day month pattern, implemented in every modern browser's internationalisation engine. The calculator converts your birth date and today's date to Hijri day-month-year values, then subtracts exactly like a normal age calculation — years, then months, then days, borrowing from the larger unit when needed.
Accuracy note: the tabular calendar is deterministic and matches Saudi civil dates, but Pakistan's official Ramadan and Eid dates follow local moon sighting, which can differ by one day either way. For age, records and birthdays this difference is irrelevant; for the start of fasting or Eid ul-Adha, follow the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announcement.
Why Hijri Dates Matter in Pakistani Life
Zakat anniversaries run on lunar time. The hawl — the one-year ownership period for Zakat — is counted in lunar months. If your wealth first crossed nisab on 15 Ramadan 1445, your next Zakat date is 15 Ramadan 1446, which lands about eleven days earlier each Gregorian year. Many families deliberately fix their Zakat date to Ramadan for exactly this reason.
Official documents use Gregorian, religion uses Hijri. CNIC, passports and school certificates record your birth in the English calendar, while nikah-namas and many family registers note dates in Hijri. Converting between the two once keeps family records straight for inheritance, genealogy and religious milestones — and avoids the confusion of two different "birthdays" on paper.
Islamic months drift through the seasons. Because the Hijri year is 354 days, Ramadan moves about eleven days earlier annually, completing a full cycle of seasons in about 33 years. That is why fasting falls in summer some years and winter in others — and why your Islamic birthday slowly travels through the calendar across your lifetime.
Months named after events, numbered by the moon. The months carry meaning — Muharram (sacred), Ramadan (the fasting month), Dhul-Hijjah (the month of Hajj). Knowing your birth month in Hijri connects you to that rhythm; many parents choose Islamic names linked to the month or the day of the week of birth.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about the Hijri Age Calculator — for anything else, message us on WhatsApp.
Why is my Hijri age higher than my Gregorian age?
The Hijri year has 354–355 days versus 365–366 in the Gregorian calendar, so Islamic years pass faster. Every 33 solar years, the Hijri count gains about one full year — a 33-year-old is typically 34 in Hijri terms.
Which Hijri calendar does this calculator use?
The Umm al-Qura tabular calendar, the standard civil conversion used across the Muslim world and built into modern browsers. It matches Saudi civil dates; local moon-sighting in Pakistan can shift religious dates by a day.
How do I find my Islamic date of birth?
Enter your Gregorian birth date above and the calculator prints the exact Hijri equivalent — day, Islamic month name and Hijri year — the same format recorded in nikah registers and Islamic family records.
When is my next Hijri birthday?
It is the day you complete each additional Hijri year — the same Hijri day and month as your birth date. Because the Hijri year is shorter, it arrives about eleven days earlier in the Gregorian calendar every year; the calculator computes the exact date.
Can I use this tool for Zakat anniversary planning?
Yes — enter the Gregorian date your wealth crossed nisab and note the Hijri date shown. Your Zakat is due on that same Hijri date each lunar year. The zakat calculator on this site then works out the amount.
Is the Hijri age valid for official documents in Pakistan?
Official Pakistani documents (CNIC, passport, degrees) use the Gregorian date only. Hijri age is for religious, family and community records — always quote your Gregorian birth date on government paperwork.
