Gold Calculator
About the Gold Calculator
Gold in Pakistan is priced per tola in every sarafa bazaar — from the main bazaars of Kasur to Lahore's Shah Alam Market — while international sites quote per ounce or gram, and jewellers sell 22K or 18K jewellery against a 24K quoted rate. This free gold calculator connects all of those numbers: enter the current rate once and get exact values for any weight, purity and quantity in PKR.
The calculator converts the quoted rate into per-gram and per-tola figures for the four common purities — 24K (pure), 22K, 21K and 18K — then multiplies by your weight and adds any making or wastage charges the jeweller quotes. You see exactly where every rupee goes before you agree to a price, and the rate table for all four karats is shown alongside so you can sanity-check the quote on the spot.
Rates change daily — sometimes twice a day — so the tool does not hard-code prices. Type in the rate you have just been quoted or checked online, and the calculator does the maths instantly inside your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded or stored anywhere.
How to Use the Gold Calculator
Follow these simple steps — the whole process takes under a minute:
- Enter the current 24K rate — the per-tola figure from the sarafa bazaar or a rates website; per-gram input is also supported.
- Choose the purity — 24K for bars and coins, 22K for standard Pakistani jewellery, 21K or 18K for lighter and imported designs.
- Enter the weight and unit — in tola or grams, decimals allowed (for example 1.5 tola or 7.5 grams).
- Add making charges — the percentage the jeweller quotes for workmanship and wastage; leave it at 0 for the bare metal value.
- Press Calculate — see the metal value, making charges and total price, plus the per-tola and per-gram rates for every purity.
The Formula & Method Behind the Gold Calculator
All gold maths runs on two numbers: the purity fraction and the tola. Purity is karat over 24 — 24K gold is pure (fraction 1.0), 22K is 22/24 ≈ 0.9167, 21K is 0.875 and 18K is 0.75. So the 22K rate is always the 24K rate multiplied by 0.9167, and an 18K piece is worth exactly three quarters of the pure-gold price for the same weight.
The tola is the traditional South Asian unit used in every Pakistani jewellery shop: 1 tola = 11.6638 grams. To convert a per-tola rate into a per-gram rate, divide by 11.6638; to go from per gram back to per tola, multiply by 11.6638. For example, a 24K rate of Rs. 20,000 per gram equals about Rs. 233,276 per tola.
The full price of a jewellery piece is metal value plus charges. Metal value = per-gram rate for the chosen purity × weight in grams; making or wastage charges are a percentage the jeweller adds on top. The calculator shows both separately, because the metal value is roughly what you could recover when reselling, while making charges are a one-time cost you do not get back.
Buying and Selling Gold in Pakistan — Practical Tips
Always check the rate right before buying. Gold rates in Pakistan move daily with the international market and the rupee-dollar exchange rate, and sarafa bazaar rates can shift during the day. Note the rate, then verify the per-gram figure against your receipt — jewellers should quote purity, weight and rate separately on it, and this calculator makes that check instant.
Making charges versus wastage. Making charges are the labour cost of the design; wastage is claimed as gold lost while working. Machine-made pieces carry lower charges than intricate handmade sets, and charges are negotiable, especially on larger purchases. Remember they are not recovered on resale — a 20% making charge puts a piece 20% underwater as an investment from day one.
Purity checking. Pakistani jewellery is commonly 22K; imported and lightweight pieces are often 18K or 21K. Look for purity stamps or hallmarking, ask for the karat in writing on the receipt, and for large purchases prefer a jeweller who offers on-the-spot machine purity testing. 24K is soft and used mainly for bars and coins rather than wearable jewellery.
Old gold exchange. When trading in old gold, jewellers deduct for wear and may test purity by touchstone or machine. Weigh and value your old gold with this calculator first, then compare exchange offers. For the Zakat due on gold you hold for a year, use the Zakat calculator, which applies the nisab rules for gold and silver.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about the Gold Calculator — for anything else, message us on WhatsApp.
How many grams are in 1 tola?
1 tola = 11.6638 grams — the standard used across Pakistani sarafa bazaars. A 10-tola gold bar weighs 116.64 grams, and 1 kilogram equals about 85.74 tola.
How do I convert the per-tola gold rate to per gram?
Divide the per-tola rate by 11.6638. For example, a 24K rate of Rs. 233,276 per tola ÷ 11.6638 = Rs. 20,000 per gram. The calculator shows both figures automatically once you enter either one.
What is the 22K rate compared to 24K?
22K gold is 22/24 = 91.67% pure, so its rate is the 24K rate × 0.9167. If 24K is Rs. 20,000 per gram, 22K is Rs. 18,333 per gram. Similarly, 21K is 87.5% and 18K is 75% of the 24K rate.
Does this calculator include making charges?
Yes — enter the percentage the jeweller quotes and the calculator adds it on top of the metal value, showing both separately. Charges are usually 0% for bars and coins, and commonly 5–20% for jewellery depending on the design.
Which karat should I choose?
Use 24K for gold bars, coins and bullion value; 22K for standard Pakistani jewellery; 21K or 18K for imported or lightweight designs. Choosing the wrong purity changes the value by 8–25%, so confirm the karat from your receipt or the jeweller before calculating.
Is this the gold rate for today?
No — gold rates change daily and this tool deliberately does not hard-code them. Check the current rate from the sarafa bazaar or a rates website, enter it above, and the calculator computes values for any weight and purity. This way the maths stays correct even when prices move.
